Gilbert Sendugwa on public procurement during COVID-19
In the tenth “Coronavignette” we continue to share conversations with leaders of civil society organizations in Africa on how COVID-19 affects their work.
Gilbert Sendugwa is the Executive Director of the Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC). AFIC brings together 41 civil society organizations in 21 countries from across Africa to promote the right of access to public information through research, capacity building, and coordinated advocacy.
In this 10 minute video, Gilbert describes:
- Challenges the Centre has faced in working from home and how it affected their work
- The importance of monitoring the procurement process during COVID-19 as highlighted through their recent monitoring report on district level response across Uganda
- The role civil society can play in helping governments balance the need for rapid procurement with having a transparent, participatory process
- The new tools and adaptations AFIC has made in the face of COVID-19
We’ll have future Coronavignette videos with Alan Hudson of Global Integrity, and more in the coming weeks.
